Kumar Bhooshan - PM Athlete of the Month (tie!)

Share a little about you and your family outside of CFE.

I have been married to my wife Jen for almost 11 years, (most people tell me she is much cooler than I am,) and we have a two-year old daughter named Nora, who is the reason why we do Crossfit and try to stay healthy and active. I am a teacher at Edwardsville High School and am an active member at Metro Community Church. As a family, we spend a lot of time at the park, zoo, Science Center, and really anything we can do to get our little one to take a nap. I also play a lot of golf, although you would never know it based on ability.

How has CrossFit positively impacted your health, career, and relationships?

I have never been in better shape in my life! I can do things at the gym I never thought possible of myself and that confidence carries over to life outside of the gym. I make better choices with my eating, sleep patterns and have a consistently positive demeanor. I have found myself not only being more encouraging to others, but have gained many positive relationships and friendships through CFE. There are people here who daily challenge me to do things I couldn’t do by myself and encourage me to improve my overall lifestyle.

What brought you to CrossFit Edwardsville (ie, how'd you find out about us)?

I watched the Crossfit Games on ESPN and thought it was the most impressive thing I had ever seen physically. I saw the sign on highway 159 to see what it was all about. I was only there to ask questions, but by the time I left, Caroline had me signed up for the intro class.

What are your current goals?

My current goals are to lean out after doing a lot of lifting-based work outs lately. Get over the 200 lb. mark on my power clean, and continue to attend CFE 4-5 times a week.

Most memorable moment at CFE?

My first muscle-up! Coach Scott, stopped the 5 p.m. class and said “We are not continuing class until Kumar does a muscle-up." As nerve-racking as that was, I got up on the bar and did the ugliest muscle-up possible, but I didn’t want to come down after I did. Big accomplishment.

Favorite workout/lift/movement?

My favorite lift is anything shoulder to overhead. When I started, it was my strongest lift and so I maintained confidence with it and still do. Although I have improved in other areas, I do like when I see them in the WOD.
